The largest island on Lake Garda

Isola del Garda lies off the Brescia shore, opposite the San Felice del Benaco area. It is easy to recognise by its dense vegetation and the Venetian Neo-Gothic villa dominating the island’s outline. Its position away from the mainland gives it an almost secretive character.

The most natural way to discover it is from the water. Approaching by boat creates a visual sequence that no photograph can replace: first the island appears as a green mass, then the villa, terraces and details of the shoreline emerge.

Photographic results depend on the light and the position of the boat. Morning often offers greater clarity; afternoon can create stronger shadows and warmer reflections. A moderate zoom lens helps isolate the villa without losing the wider context of the island.

Do not spend the whole cruise behind a screen. Take a few photographs, then watch the approach directly: it is the movement, more than any single frame, that remains in your memory.
